Similar as for humans, fitness training starts to have more importance in a dog’s training program. Similar as for humans, you want to ensure this is thought by a qualified canine fitness trainer to ensure good form and prevent getting injured. Fitness and Conditioning training is now being offered by Fitdog. Nathalie Janssen is the first Certified Canine Fitness Trainer (CCFT) in the Benelux, having been certified from the University of Tennessee (department College of Veterinary Medicine).
Fitness training is FUN for every dog, from coach potato to sporting and working dogs and is great to prevent injuries or after a completed rehabilitation program.
The purpose of fitness training is to increase your dog’s conditioning whereby we will increase the bond between owner and dog and work on the dog’s flexibility, coordination, proprioception and balance as well as cardio and strenght. At the same time these exercises will stimulate your dog’s core strength and are a great mental workout as well!
I typically work with FitPaws® equipment as these are designed specifically for dogs and with the security of your dog in mind.
Exercises have been specifically devoped for every dog’s level of expertise and go from basic to advanced. Fitness training can be done for dog’s of any age and abilities, from puppies to seniors. However if your dog has a current injury, it should see us for a rehabilitation, physiotherapy program first, after which it can evolve to a fitness program.
PRIVATE CLASSES, SEMINARS OR GROUP CLASSES SUCH AS FOR AGILITY OR SPORTING DOGS ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.
